Decolonizing Islamic Studies: Authority, Epistemology, and the Production of Muslim Knowledge

Arba: Jurnal Studi Keislaman invites academics, researchers, lecturers, graduate students, and practitioners to submit their best scholarly articles for Volume 2, No. 4 (October 2026). This edition features the theme "Decolonizing Islamic Studies: Authority, Epistemology, and the Production of Muslim Knowledge," providing a space for critical reflection on various colonial legacies in the construction of contemporary Islamic knowledge.
This theme encourages studies that re-examine scholarly authority, methodology, and power relations in the production and legitimacy of Muslim knowledge. Decolonizing Islamic Studies is not merely interpreted as a rejection of Western academic traditions, but rather as an effort to establish a more just, pluralistic epistemological dialogue grounded in the historical experiences of Muslim communities.

Topics that may be considered include:
* Decolonizing epistemology in Islamic Studies;
* Critiques of Orientalism and colonial legacies in Islamic studies;
* The authority of scholars, religious institutions, and the transmission of knowledge;
* The production, circulation, and legitimacy of Muslim knowledge;
* Local Islamic intellectual traditions and community-based knowledge;
* Islam, power, and the politics of knowledge;
* Alternative methodologies in Islamic Studies research;
* The digitization of Islamic knowledge and new religious authorities;
* Gender, subaltern, and marginalized voices perspectives in Islamic Studies;
* Interdisciplinary studies that offer new readings of Muslim intellectual dynamics.

Submitted manuscripts must be original research, unpublished, and not currently under consideration for publication in other journals. All articles will undergo an editorial selection process and double-blind peer review in accordance with ethical standards for scientific publication.

Manuscript submission deadline: July 31, 2026
Publication schedule: October 2026

We invite critical, innovative, and reflective contributions to enrich the field of Islamic Studies and open up new possibilities for understanding, producing, and disseminating Muslim knowledge amidst contemporary global challenges.
